Went for a hike on the Sweetness Trail today. I was looking for some Intermediate and Spreading Dogbane, unfortunately I was too late, the flowers have passed. I’ll have to try again next year. I can still go up to the park and pick some Lingonberries and make something out of those. I made a nice relaxing video of a little stream that runs alongside the trail.

Sunday August 2nd — Harrigan Falls

Sunday I went out for a hike with Francine. We were in search of Harrigan Falls. From the description I was given I didn’t think it was too far from the lake. We didn’t find it within the 1st hour of hiking so I was just about ready to give up…….but we didn’t……we kept going and were greatly rewarded……..it is a beautiful spot in Rockwood Park and I’ll be happy to visit it again.

This little guy lives under my deck……..he likes to come out and sun himself.

Last day of Vacation……..at least there was sun.

Today I went for 2 short walks with with dog. They were .75 km. So a total of 1.5 km today.
Hopefully tomorrow will walk on my lunch and see what I can accomplish in an hour.

Long Saturday Walk – - – and fishing trip

Walked 3.61 km there and back in total. No catches but my friend caught a 21cm trout. It was fun. I was tired out at the end as was straight walking there and back. Not the same as hiking the trails and taking my time taking pictures.

April 9th, 10th and 11th 2009

Started hiking again up at Rockwood Park. It was really warm on Thursday April 9th, just stayed mainly on Lily Lake trail and up the paved road to Fisher Lakes and on up the bridge. Got some nice pics of a stream that flows into Lily Lake.

On the 10th I decided to try to make it all the way around Frying Pan Lake. I made it farther than I have in the past. Not knowing the trail well and there being some places that the snow was still covering the trail and it as deep as my knee I decided to turn back and leave the rest of the adventure for another day. The hill at the back end of Frying Pan Lake seems to be a favorite spot of deer as plenty of droppings. Just past that the land goes down into a deep valley that can be explored later on this spring when it dries up a bit. There is a great place at the back end of Frying Pan Lake that is elevated and flat with rocks surrounding it on all four sides. It would make a great place to pitch camp for the night. I may see if I can find a couple of adventurous souls to camp there overnight this summer.

On the 11th I foll0wed the NB Trail from the entrance near the Clean Air trail to the Y, it was much longer than I remember and perhaps I’m out of shape from last year, but I was very tired when I got to the Y. I was able to get some pictures of deer in the woods at the beginning of the hike.

Hopefully tomorrow will allow me another hike. It is supposed to be sunny and +9C tomorrow.

September and October —- pretty much a wash

Didn’t do any hiking in September or October………….that I remember anyway……….the arthritus was bad this fall……….really painful and I just wasn’t up to going far.

However I did go far beginning October 31st. My first trip on an airplane. I flew from here to Toronto. Spent the night in a hotel and then caught an early morning flight to Cancun…………it was so warm and so beautiful there I didn’t want to come home. The people were so friendly.

November’s Autumn

I got out for a hike on Thursday and it was great. I lost my footing in some mud and fell down and got all muddy. It all happened in slow motion and I didn’t hurt myself so all was good. I am trying to learn the habits of deer as I would like to find some the woods and take a couple of pictures. No luck so far. I’ll have to try again.

Today Sunday November 30th, I went for a hike around Frying Pan Lake. It was a trail I’d never gone on before. I didn’t follow it all the way around, I’ll save that pleasure for another day.

Its back to work after having 11 days off from work. Time flies and it hardly seems like its time to go back already. I have another week booked off at the end of August but with the not so great weather we’ve been getting and the trend being that September is usually nicer, I think I’ll cancel the last week of August and take the time in September. I should have me new camera by then and get some great pictures up at the park.

I really don’t want to go back to work this morning but I have figured out a way to get more blog time. I’m not able to go on to blog sites from my desk at work so instead I’ll blog into an email, then email myself and post that into my blog.

I’m continuing on with reading An Indian Dynasty by Tariq Ali it is quite good and came in handy when I was listening to Cross Country Check Up on CBC radio and a caller was discussing whether the government of Canada should be apologizing for the actions of our fore fathers. They were discussing Canada’s role at that time in India’s struggle for independance from Britian.
